Where it all started
Smokin Gunz Customs was founded on nearly two decades of experience in the firearms industry and a passion for craftsmanship, safety, and customization.
Our journey began over 17 years ago behind the gun counter of a local Army Navy store, where founder Edwin Rivera developed a deep understanding of firearms and customer service. Through hard work and dedication, he quickly advanced from sales associate to managing firearm sales, helping the business grow and compete with some of Central Florida's largest firearm retailers.
Driven to continue learning, Edwin transitioned to a local gun range where he became an NRA-certified firearms instructor, expanded his expertise in firearms modification, and gained extensive knowledge of federal firearm regulations. That experience eventually led to management positions, firearm instruction, and the opportunity to launch his first business, Practical Protection, LLC, providing concealed weapons licensing courses and professional firearm safety training.
After returning to Central Florida, Edwin continued building partnerships with local businesses, pawn shops, and the Orange and Seminole County court systems, providing firearm safety education and concealed weapons classes. While working closely with firearm owners throughout the state, he recognized a growing need for professional, high-quality Cerakote services delivered by someone who truly understood firearms—not just how to apply a finish.
That realization led to the creation of Smokin Gunz Customs.
